Our design experts
are here for advice on five ways to improve spending
and living at home in a trendy way. It may cost a little more to have energy efficiency in the beginning of
your transition, but there are continuing benefits
including lower heating and cooling expenses
as well as benefits for earth as time passes.
Windows allow natural light into your home, another energy efficiency
must-have. A beautiful day calls for a lot of windows that you can look out of and open up for fresh air. An easy tip is to dress up your windows with moveable
curtains. This gives you a
natural ‘light bulb’ that you can turn on and off throughout
your day. Double-insulated
windows are also an energy and huge cost saver. They decrease outside noise, energy spent on maintaining home
temperatures and are also a value booster when you look to move away.
Tip #2: Tech-less
rooms are the new black.
In a world of instant connection, we are finding
ourselves less connected with our surroundings and the people we
are with. Tech-less rooms can offer energy efficiency
and help create lasting relationships with your
family and friends. Instead of watching Netflix or checking
Facebook for hours, read a book or play a game with your loved ones.
Shop locally to help out local businesses while saving on shipping
and the energy used to get that package to you. Another benefit
– the more local you shop, the better chances
you have that you will find individual and unique pieces for your space at
home. Dare to be different and energy efficient.
Tip #4: Gardening
is a pastime for a bunch of people throughout
warmer seasons. Even if you don’t have a yard, you can still plant
flowers or small vegetables in your house. Complement your
space and appetite with vibrant colored peppers, flowers and greens to be
used as a design piece until they are ready to eat.
Another great tip is to utilize rain water from a bucket or
run-off pipe to water your plants indoors.
